Obsession of the Week: Dawes

dawes1
The obsession for the week is Dawes,  a Los Angeles-based 4 piece, who recently released there self-titled debut album on the label Record Collection. I’ve been a huge fan of this band for sometime, and word has definitely been spreading about their live shows, which have become packed with their growing following.

Download my favorite song by them below, and you can purchase the album on iTunes. They are heading to
SXSW next week, and then they will tour the US, opening for Jenny Lewis.

Check out the dates after the cut.

Check out the new high-end beach wear line by Geronimo, a new collection and labor of love by up-and-coming designer Jenny Reyes. You are probably already very familiar with her work and just don’t know it yet. She has designed the stunning stage outfits for Jenny Lewis on her last 2 tours, styled for many magazine and video shoots, and amassed a growing list of press in such major publications as Rolling Stone and Under the Radar (where Geronimo was first featured).

The debut line features corset fitted tops, vintage fabrics, high-waisted shorts and bathing suits that are a throw back to the beach party days of Gidget with a modern twist.

Jenny Reyes has been designing clothes since her teens, drawing on her love for fashion and learning the trade from her grandmother. She spent the past few years touring across the US with Rilo Kiley and Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins. It was living in this creative environment that inspired her to take the next step forward from designing clothes for friends to starting her own line.

The line will be going into select high-end boutiques this spring, but can also be ordered directly by emailing here.

Take a look at some more of the line after the cut.

Ahhhh….check out Jenny Lewis in Bust, wearing my dream dress. I’ve been a little more obsessed with her than usual thanks to her amazing live show for Acid Tongue, which I had the pleasure of experiencing three times so far.  So imagine my delight when I saw her on the cover.

It’s out right now.

p.s. Yes, I know Threadtrend talks about Jenny Lewis entirely too much.  We make no apologies.

Obsession for the Week: Benji Hughes

My obsession for the week is Benji Hughes and the track “The Mummy” off his debut LP A Love Extreme out now on New West Records.

I spent a day hanging out with my friend Jen, who had the song on repeat (for good reason). Check out the song and a bonus song from the album, and then do yourself a favor and go pick up the double album.

Benji Hughes hails from Charlotte, North Carolina and he’s currently touring the Uk with Jenny Lewis.

LA Event: Jenny Lewis Kicks off Acid Tongue Tour at Spaceland

Jenny Lewis started her tour last night in Los Angeles with a very intimate performance at Spaceland. As you can imagine, the show sold out relatively quickly in advance, but a large number of people showed up at the door clamoring to get in, as the line continued to grow around the block.

The set list showcased many new songs from her new album Acid Tongue, which is out on 9/23. We here at Threadtrend have had it on constant rotation for the last few weeks. The new album is definetly more adventurous as the songs are all over the map, including an epic 8-minute song called the “Last Messiah.”

The new songs went over very well with the crowd, and they were also treated to choice cuts off of Rabbit Fur Coat along with a cover of “Love Hurts.” Los Angeles fans will also be treated to another very intimate performance as Jenny Lewis & company take the stage at The Echo for another SOLD OUT show.

Dont fret if you didn’t get tickets to these two very special shows as there is another Los Angeles stop scheduled at the Orphuem Theatre on Oct 30th.

So Rilo Kiley played their final show of the tour at the Greek Theater. It’s heavily rumored to be their last show ever. Here is a crystal clear copy of the show, for those who made it out and for those who didnt.

Click here to download the show.

Also, here’s a video I shot of Rilo Kiley doing “Spectacular Views” at the end of the show. Notice how Jenny says “We’re Rilo Kiley…It’s been nice knowing you!”

Paper’s Top 25 Most Stylish Songbirds

Paper Magazine recently did a feature on the “25 Most Stylish Songbirds.” Here they are in all their fashion glory along with some music by each artist. Did they forget anyone? Should some have been left off? I’m thinking its a pretty good list (cough…minus Aubrey O Day…cough).

Jenny Lewis Goes Sailor at Coachella

Aw! Here’s Jenny Lewis looking cute as a button at Coachella–WWD even put her on today’s cover.

I didn’t go to Coachella this year, but I’ve been a whole bunch of times before.  Let me tell you, even if John Lennon and George Harrison were resurrected, and The Beatles did a reunion, I’d still probably say “Eh, it’s too hot.”

I’m an old lady–I like my comforts.
