Dear Vogue: Adele’s Not Thin

Every year Vogue does their ridiculous “Shape” issue, in which they so graciously allow “curvy” celebrities to appear on their pages.   As you probably know, “curvy” in Anna Wintour-speak is codeword for anyone over a size 2, so basically this is the issue where anyone who has decipherable hips or thighs is “celebrated.”

And by celebrated, I mean patronized and photoshopped.

Case in point, British singer Adele, who is featured in the issue and is barely recognizable in the photo above.  Vogue would have us think that the singer lost 30 pounds in preparation for the Annie Leibovitz shoot–from the hand on the face to the missing right arm, they really used every trick in the book to slim the British singer.

My question is: why?  Aren’t we all already aware of Adele’s size?  What does Vogue think they’re protecting us from, and who do they think they’re fooling?

Dear Vogue, Adele’s not thin, and we’re okay with it. You should have been less predictable and put her on the cover instead of Beyonce. Oh, and could you stop using the word “voluptuous” to describe everyone who isn’t painfully skinny?

Dakota Fanning is Cheri Currie?

cheriedakota

Strangely enough, Dakota Fanning is in negotiations to play Cheri Currie in the upcoming biopic about The RunawaysKristen Stewart has already attached herself  in the role of Joan Jett.  It’s a pretty interesting choice, but since  Currie was only 15 when she began fronting the teen punk group, it works age wise.  It might be a brilliant idea.

The movie is written and will be directed by music video director and photographer Floria Sigismondi. It starts shooting late spring.  And Joan Jett is the executive producer, so it’s legit.

I have only one question: who’s playing Lita Ford?

Super-fashiony Lula’s latest issue features an editorial that includes good-humored sketches of fashion icons like Chloe Sevigny, Mary-Kate Olsen and even good ol’ Edie Beale. The piece is called “The Perfect Mess,” and it’s hard not to love.

Hedi Slimane Thinks Lindsay Lohan Still Matters

lindsay

I’d been breathing a sigh of relief lately because I thought we were almost rid of Lindsay Lohan. Sure, she’s still gossiped about, I thought, but she’s on the fast track to Z-list/Paris Hilton status. Well, apparently Hedi Slimane does not agree. The famed photographer has her plastered all over his Fashion Diary like she’s important or something. Why is he still fascinated? And I just wrote about it, so does that mean I’m still fascinated?

And is Lindsay wearing a jacket but no pants? I’m so confused.

London Fashion Week Fall ’09: Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

“My references are all over the map, from skinheads to Connecticut kids to St. Mark’s Place.” says Chloe Sevigny about her latest collection for Opening Ceremony. The line is a unisex venture, made for guys but scaled down to fit girls.

Lots of bold print, voluminous silhouettes, high waists, and even a modern-day James Dean-esque red jacket.  I had my eye on those grey trousers on the mustached fellow until I remembered I can’t wear pleats.

Ed Westwick Wants Helena Christensen to Seduce Him

The gay rumors are really of no consequence to this super-sexy Bazaar magazine spread featuring hotter-than-ever supermodel Helena Christensen and Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick.  In it,  Christensen is the Mrs. Robinson to Westwick’s Benjamin, and I think you’ll love it.  Leave it to Terry Richardson.

More pics after the cut (might be a teeny bit USFW).

Michael Pitt stars in the short film directed by photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, which  has been shown at the opening of the latest Yves Saint Laurent’s menswear shows. The clip doesn’t consist of any nudity but still manages to be incredibly erotic–it features Pitt staring at the camera while a women reads about the clothing in French, using lines like “Cross and uncross, tension and release, … You take pleasure from me and I delight.”

Take a look at the clip below:
