The Obsession of the Week is Japandroids, a garage rock band from Vancouver British Colombia. Hearing their song “Young Hearts Spark Fire” is like a jolt to the chest. There debut album Post Nothing has quickly become one of my favorite albums of the year. They are currently touring, and you can check out their tour dates after the cut.

The Obsession of the Week is Dark Night of the Soul, which is the collaboration of Dangermouse and Sparklehorse with various other musicians. This audio visual project was to be released this summer, but legal issues between Dangermouse and his label have basically scrapped the project.
Fear not, however, it will still be released as a book with images shot by David Lynch. The book will have a limited run of 5000 on May 29th. You can pre-order it here . The album has leaked
all over the internet and the book will come with a blank CD-R so that you can do with it what you will.
The album features a very talented line up of singers, including Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), James Mercer (The Shins) and Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) to name a few. Check out a song from the album and the tracklisting below.

The obsession of the week once again is Los Angeles singer/songwriter Jeremy Jay. Last year we were going crazy about Airwalker, and now he’s back with a new album called “Slow Dance,” which was released on March 24th on K Records. He is currently touring the US and plays Los Angeles tonight at The Smell with another Threadtrend favorite Princeton.

The Obsession of the Week is The Whitest Boy Alive. I fell pretty hard for their last album Dreams, which was on constant repeat on my iPod. The Whitest Boy Alive is the Inde/Electro side project of Erland Oye (Kings of Convenience).
Their new album Rules is out on March 31st. It features chilled out dance music and will be on constant repeat just like the last one. So far, there are no US tour dates, but hopefully they will tour here in the summer. Download a song below.

The Obsession of the Week is San Diego native Nathan Williams’ lo-fi project called WAVVES. At the young age of 22, he manages to craft together songs that range in style yet come together like a beautiful abstract painting. His self-titled debut album was recorded using Garage Band. He has already amassed a large amount of press and is touring the US this spring.
Take a listen and see what you think. See tour dates are after the cut.

Vodpod videos no longer available.
Last year Friendly Fires was used in the Wii Fit commercial, and we also picked them as our Obsession of the Week . They have just released a video for “Skeleton Boy”, which–surprise– has them turning into skeletons of sort. The video version of the song is a re-recorded one done with Paul Epworth. This version of the song goes onsale March 2nd and features a bit more synth than the album version.
