Last night Antony and the Johnsons played a sold out show at the Walt Disney Concert Hall accompanied by a 20-piece orchestra. The 85-minute show featured arrangements by Antony and Nico Muhly. Rob Moose conducted the evening.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is a beautiful venue and the perfect setting for Antony’s melancholic voice, which filled the hall and transformed it into a dreamlike setting. Since most of the show was performed in muted lightning, it was hard to make out his face and there was more emphasis on his vibrato, which acted like an added instrument to the orchestra.

The orchestral arrangements proved to compliment Antony’s songs and the crowd was treated to some new material as well as songs from his recently released EP Another World. The first highlight of the night was a cut off of the extended version of the “I am a Bird” recording titled “ I Fell in Love with a Dead Boy.” The song summed up the evening when Antony sang, “Are you a Boy? Or are you a Girl?.” Antony wore a white floor length gown with his face hidden in the shadows of the stage lighting that focused more on the orchestra than himself. With long black hair, pale skin and a voice as adrongonous as his look, it didnt matter if it was a boy or a girl on stage that night.

The other highlight of the night was the encore performance of “River Of Sorrow.” Antony also performed his cover of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love.” He receieved two standing ovations, and everyone in attendance witnessed a very special night.

Here are two songs to enjoy (NOT FROM LAST NIGHT!!!!!):

I Fell In Love With A Dead Boy
Crazy in Love
