“We’re the Stains, and we don’t put out.”
Just released last week for the first time ever is the cult classic Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains. The film, which stars Diane Lane and Laura Dern, was produced by the same people who made Rocky Horror Picture Show and the director from Up In Smoke, so you already know this is really good stuff. It gets extra Punk cred since it also features Paul Simonon from The Clash.
The 1982 release is about 3 teenage girls who start a punk band, inspiring legions of girls with their feminist ways and see-through blouses in every town they play. The film is also about commercialization, fad status, authenticity and all that, too.
This is the first time the film has ever been released on DVD (it was never even available on VHS). It has only been shown on television (think late night on the USA network) a few times and is held in high regard by anyone lucky enough to see it. You can thank Rhino for the pleasure. It was a big favorite in the Riot Grrrl scene.
Get your own on the Rhino site.
