NME reports that Beth Ditto is in talks with British clothing chain New Look to create her own collection. The company collaborated with Lily Allen last year, and at the time, the singer said she wanted her line to be inclusive because “fashion: it’s for everyone, not just a load of super-skinny models.” It’s pretty safe to say that Ditto will go into this with a similar mindset.
On a side note, I just saw the documentary Girls Rock!, and insanely fun and kind of emotional (yeah, I said it) look into a Portland, Oregon music camp for girls, where women musicians (including Beth and Sleater-Kinney‘s Carrie Brownstein) teach girls to play instruments, write songs, and–I know it sounds dorky–accept themselves.
It’s not out on DVD until September 9, but you can still see it in some theaters. Check out the Girls Rock! website for details.

It’s refreshing to see a larger model in the photo and it’s impressive to read that designers are also taking into account heavier people when designing their clothes. I believe this is not only good for our society but it’s bound to make lots of money because there are so many heavier girls out there that need this.
