Usually when you see a shirt like this at, say, the County Fair or on a neighbor with a Native American fetish, you don’t think twice about it. But add some dramatic shoulder pads and an insane price tag, and suddenly it’s selling out in Beverly Hills?

It’s ironic, it’s true, and it’s a bit of a problem for British artist David Penfound, who created “Summoning the Storm,” the painting that’s depicted on both of the above shirts.

Yet, despite the resemblance, the tee on the top (which Penfound was paid for) goes for about $20, while the Martin Margiela design (which Penfound was not paid for) from his Spring/Summer 08 Collection costs $1,395.

Penfound usually licenses his art for between $1,000 and $4,000, then he gets 10% royalties for each sale.

I wonder if Margiela will have to pay up.
